2015 11 25 Vardo – Norvegia

Dear Sir / Madam,

Greetings from Norway! My name is Hans Ostnell and I’m living in Vardo, which is the easternmost point in Norway in the extreme north of Scandinavia. The town of Vardo is actually located on a small island in the Barents Sea, about 2 kilometres from the mainland and some 500 kilometers north of the Arctic cirkle. I’m a radio enthusiast, enjoying receiving distant radio stations, especially on the AM band, and hopefully have my reception confirmed by a station representative.

I had the pleasure of picking up your radio station, Radio Timisorara on 630 kHz AM on the 29th of November 2015 at 18:00 hours your local time. Your station is not really a regular catch here in my location and I was very surprised when I heard your signals. Radio propagation is indeed interesting and fun!

As proof of the reception, I have enclosed a short audio clip, containing your station’s identification, voiced by a female announcer, received at 18:00 hours your local time. There was some interference on the frequency at time of reception, but your station identification stands out pretty clear and I hope that the audio clip is representing satisfying evidence of the reception of your station.

I was listening from my cottage, outside of town to avoid some of the noise and electrical interference that always is present in populated areas. I was using a Sony ICF-2010, a portable yet very capable receiver and a 75 meter in circumference active loop antenna. Propagation into your area was quite good this day, and several stations from southeastern Europe was received here in my arctic location, sometimes with excellent quality!

I myself is 49 years old and working as manager for the coast radio station Vardo Radio, which serves ships in the Barents Sea with maritime safety information and weather forecasts on VHF av Medium Frequency, as well as monitoring the maritime distress channels. Regarding this radio listening hobby of mine, I’ve been doing this since 1980. I’m also a radio amateur, or ham operator, holding the Norwegian callsign LA2MOA.

I would be very happy if my reception of Radio Timisoara is confirmed as correct. It would be very nice to add your station into my collection of AM-stations in that I have received here. I will also take the opportunity to wish the station’s staff a Happy New Year. I hope to catch your station again in the future!

Thank you for your time and kind regards,

Hans Ostnell
